One the most perceptible tendencies of financial markets and institutes is the expansion of international activity It results from the revolution of technology and the increase of the competition. In the near future branch offices of foreign banks will function side by side with the local banks in Lithuania. The most important role of the foreign banks in economy of Lithuania is to attract the investments, needed to finance investment projects of the main fields of Lithuanian economy. The activity of branch offices of foreign banks will help to restore the society confidence in banks and to form the new consumption culture of financial services. The expansion of foreign banks will cause the competition between branch offices of foreign banks and local banks. In order to survive Lithuanian banks will be forced to improve their activities. In one’s turn this will positively influence the economy of Lithuania. One of international banks’ tasks is to finance the foreign trade and to insure against exchange risk. Foreign banks, which have much experience of such activity, will be able to help local entrepreneurs to grasp the opportunities and necessities of such financial instruments. The activity of branch offices is strictly regulated by the legislation regulates the activity of banks as in home country as in foreign one. However there is tendency to eliminate the significant differences in the legislation of particular countries in order to give equal conditions for competition.
