Damaged roads occur primarily because the concrete inspection chamber shafts are lifted apart. Soil therefore enters the system, which results in blockage and flooding. In addition, it results in inspection camber covers protruding from the asphalt covering, thereby endangering road-users and causing inconvenience to snow clearing. The construction of the corrugated PVC-U shaft pipe is capable of absorbing the alternating compressive and tensile stresses combined with horizontal ground pressures. The results showed that the top of the inspection chamber shafts were lying at the same level as the ground surface throughout the year, and that damage to the inspection chambers, usually occurring due to frost, was avoided during the period of time, the measuring was carried out. Heavy compressive and tensile stresses on the inspection chamber have neither damaged the construction of it nor the asphalt covering round it.
