The carried out research and analysis of the Lithuanian gravel deposits and materials used for gravel road pavement enabled to evaluate the gravel road depreciation and its peculiarites. Due to traffic and climatic factors, gravel grading and pavement exploitation characteristics change during the depreciation process. Gravel pavement stability and its characteristics depend on the complex correlations, relating peculiarities of original material grading and petrographic composition as well as road maintenance conditions. The use of various materials (calcium chloride, calcium lignin sulfonate, bitumen emulsions) to bind fines in gravel road (particles finer than 0.06 mm) and reduction of their removal from pavement, enables to stabilize gravel road and improve its functioning by improving traffic safety and reducing environmental pollution.
