Aviation business in Lithuania is on first stage in integration to free market conditions. At the same time European aviation is on the move too. From early nineties internal European Community market came into being. This presents new opportunities in the aviation field. Airlines can operate more decisively and more economically. Airports will have the opportunity for further development. Competition is increasing and will increase more rapidly. Air transport customers are having more choise. Environment and safety are important aspects of the quality of the aviation product. There is a task for the Community in the years to come. Perhaps realisation of an European Community aviation policy will not turn the entire aviation world upside down. It does mean that a great deal will change in comparison with the situation in which everything was strictly regulated. Present measures will lead to more economical functioning of airlines. Within the European Community the influence of national aviation authorities will reduced considerably. A corrective system should function only in exceptional cases. Another consequence of the free market will be the further development of hub and spoke system. Instead of more than twelve national hubs a network will arise which anticipates customers wishes to the maximum. Airports in close cooperation with their air carrier will have opportunity to strength their position. If Community airlines are to be able to compete with carries from countries outside the Community, cooperation is essential. At present there is a number such examples. Lithuanian's air business have to be ready meet new European internal air market conditions and requirements.
