Standards of service for the water supply and sewerage sector

Abstract

Urban Waste Water Directive, Drinking Water Directive and other European Union Directives mainly specifies the water and wastewater quantity and quality standards to be implemented by member states. There are specified drinking water quality and wastewater treatment levels. But requirements for standards of services for the water supply and sewerage are very limited. During the study has been identified the current status of standards of service provided in the water sector and compare them to those needed to meet the EU legislation as well as user demands. Options for a range of water sector services has been be compared on a technical financial and socio-economic basis and recommendations made for generic minimum levels of service standards to be implemented in urban and rural regions.
