For a harmonic development the eduction of the detrimental influence of traffic on the environment is of a great importance. The motor vehicles play the particularly important role in Lithuania if compared with other means of transportation. Therefore a search for some new scientifically based ways, reducing the detrimental influence of transport on the environment is necessary. The paper presents an evaluation of the detrimental influence of transport and the environment and a complex of means of reduction of such influence. The situation of road traffic safety in Lithuania is also being examined, its comparison with other European Countries is being presented and some suggestions for traffic safety are being proposed.
