A labor shortage is noticeable in ports due to an increasing volume of global cargo handling. Seaport companies use the services of employee subcontractors because they enable flexible recruitment of the staff for long-term or short-term projects without the need for direct employment. The scientific problem of the research, as an innovation, consists of a hypothetical combination of the port staff subcontracting process, management functions, and purposefully selected management theories based on scientific and practical experience. The aim of the research is to highlight the practical possibilities of a theoretical model for managing the port staff subcontracting process at the level of a pilot study. The main methods of the research include the following: scientific literature analysis, hypothetical modeling, and pilot participatory observation. The application of management theories can help integrate all port staff subcontracting operations and management functions into one whole. Practical insights allow for a clearer assessment of the situation surrounding the management of the port staff subcontracting process at the level of a pilot study, as well as for the suggestion of the required solutions.
