Abstract (en)

The paper concerns one of the methods for achieving sustainable development - compact city model. The basics of theory and main arguments for the compact city as a sustainable urban form are mentioned. The example of applying compact city model to the existing city and biggest problems of nowadays cities are described. Possible solutions of advancing city form and micro-structure are given. Compact city model is used to describe movement hierarchy in the city. Some of recent sustainable transportation practices examples in Europe are mentioned.
